TALK TITLE
WORKSHOP 2: An introduction to tree responses to stimuli
ABSTRACT
Considering how stimuli initiate biological/chemical/dynamic/mechanical responses. Discussion will cover: CODIT and immediate/ongoing responses/impacts; adaptation and how it enables continuing growth; aboveground canopy loads/dynamics; and belowground impacts/influences on the tree’s rootzone/rhizosphere. Attendees will: understand how trees respond to stimuli; how the subsequent adaption/reorientation of growth/development underpins survival; plus brief updates on current thinking in relation to branch/trunk attachments and contemporary CODIT.
Sessions are relevant to arborists working within the industry, whether aspiring or experienced. Information is complementary and supplementary to NZQA L3/4/5/6 arboriculture certificate/diploma studies. Workshops are informal but focused, centred around illustrated slide presentations that encourage enquiry and interaction.
